General information
Within the German co-operative collection project supported by the Deutsche
Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, = German Research Society) since 1949, the
University Library of Erlangen-Nuremberg has been responsible for building
up and cataloguing a comprehensive collection of literature especially
from the subject area of philosophy. The collection encompasses
German and foreign publications including grey literature. Its basis
was formed by a remarkably rich collection
of philosophical literature from the 18th and 19th centuries 
.
The collection forms the basis of the database Online
Contents Philosophie .
Currently more than 180 subject-specific journals are being indexed. The database
includes more than 100,000 post-1993 journal articles. They may be requested
via the library’s document delivery service.
Materials
Books, journals, theses and reports. Printed material, microforms and
electronic publications.
Additions to the collection: About 4,000 items per year.
Period covered: Post-1800 publications. 1800-1949: German publications
only. From 1950 onwards: German and foreign publications.
Subjects covered: All fields
of philosophy except philosophy of law, philosophy of religion, philosophy
of history, philosophy of the state, mathematical logic, Asian and Islamic
philosophy and publications from Africa, Asia and South America.
At present, the library subscribes to more than 500 German and international
subject-specific journals. Holdings include 600 discontinued journals
and 900 current as well as non-current series.
Publications
For current information on the latest acquisitions see the New books list Philosophie, which is published monthly. All publications listed can be ordered either via Interlibrary loan requests forwarded by a public or university library or directly via Subito, a fee-based document delivery service.
Catalogues
Books received from 1982 onwards, and partly earlier ones as well, are searchable by subject, author or title on OPACplus (for details see: http://www.ub.uni-erlangen.de/literatursuche/) or, for specific search, on Philosophie-OPAC. The retrospective electronic classification of philosophical literature is in progress.
Databases
The library provides a free of charge search and retrieval service for
a variety of philosophical databases . It also offers fact information
on matters from the field of philosophy.
