The University Library of Erlangen-Nuremberg is a library system, which consists
of the Main Library plus three branch libraries as a "Central Library" and
15 departmental libraries with more than 130 locations.
The library is dedicated to providing access to the informational resources
required by the students and scholars of the University for research, learning,
and teaching purposes, as well as by the scientifically interested general
public.
As the information and administration centre of the University, the Main Library
along with the branch libraries offers a wide range of services such as circulation,
interlibrary loan, book processing or technical services. The Central Library
houses most of the Library’s lending material and provides extensive
collections of casebooks to students. Within the national collection programme
supported by the DFG, the Main Library is responsible for the fields of philosophy
and educational science.
Mainly non-lending libraries, the departmental libraries strive to provide
literature and other informational media for study, teaching and research to
the faculties.
The heads of the departments of the Main Library are responsible for the coordination
of their respective fields for the entire library system.
