Circulation

Search

The use of the facilities and resources of the University Library, and thus of circulation, is generally subject to the rules listed in Allgemeine Benützungsordnung der Bayerischen Staatlichen Bibliotheken (ABOB) (=General Regulations for the Use of  Bavarian State Libraries).

In order to borrow library materials, to renew or reserve library items or to check their library accounts, university staff, external users, and members of the Graduiertenschule (FAU Graduate School) need  a  library card from Erlangen-Nuremberg University Library. For students, the FAUcard serves as their library card.

Use OPACplus to search for, request, or borrow library items.  Access your "Library account" to check your account, to  renew your loans, or to change your password.

External users are required to register in person at one of the following library issue desks:

You will receive your library card immediately and free of charge. Please be prepared to show your national identity card or passport. Members of the FAU Graduate School not enrolled as doctoral  students will additionally need a written confirmation by the Graduate School.

By signing your library card you accept the regulations laid down in the ABOB.

Underage users additionally must produce the "Einwilligungserklärung der Eltern für minderjährige externe Bibliotheksbenutzer" (= permission granted by the parents of underage library users) signed by a parent or guardian.

Library material from the above-mentioned library sites as well as items from several departmental libraries only can be borrowed online. The other departmental libraries normally accept the machine-readable library card.

As a rule, items from the branch libraries and the Main Library can be reciprocally requested via Intralibrary loan (see also: Intralibrary Loan)

Lost cards

Important:

Please do not fail to report lost library cards to the library. You will be held responsible for any transactions made before the card is reported lost.

Students who have lost their FAUcard  need to contact the Studentenkanzlei (Schlossplatz 3/Halbmondstraße 6).

Reminders

External users: A few days before the due date the Library will send a reminder to your email address. The reminders are produced automatically. Please make sure that you have given us the correct email address and check regularly that your email inbox is not full, for this will prohibit the receiving of email. Make sure to check your spam folder every now and then.

Students: Since the beginning of the winter semester 2011/12, the Library receives students’ details from the University’s students records system via IDM (=Identity Management). The University provides all students with a university email account (Your details in IDM: 'E-mail-Adresse'). The Library will only use the 'official' university email. You may set up forwarding arrangements to automatically send email received in your university account to another email account of your choosing ('Dienstleistungen' -> 'E-Mail-Adresse' -> 'Weiterleitung nach'). Your data can be checked here: https://www.idm.uni-erlangen.de/go/. For questions concerning IDM, please contact idm@rrze.uni-erlangen.de or http://www.rrze.uni-erlangen.de/hilfe/service-theke/. For questions about the Library: http://www.ub.uni-erlangen.de/infodesk/index-en.shtml.

Important:

For financial reasons reminders are sent by email only. They are an additional library service, but they cannot be guaranteed for and there is no legal right to them. You should therefore continue to monitor your loans via the 'Account' option on the OPACplus.

For further information such as opening hours, accessibility, loan regulations or catalogues see the web pages of the individual sites of Erlangen-Nuremberg University Library (cf. 'About the Library').
